9 festivals you cannot miss this summer

Happy 2019 you legends!!! In case you missed it, we recently introduced a new feature allowing you to exchange multiple GiggedIn Passes for tickets to premium events (click here for more info). Since then, we’ve been busy listing STACKS of festivals so you can use up those sweet sweet passes and we’re pretty stoked with what we’ve got so far. So here’s our top 9 festivals that you cannot miss this summer….

LINEUP: Gang of Youths, Courtney Barnett, Skeggs, Middle Kids, Methyl Ethel, Parquet Courts, Rex Orange County + MORE.

Since starting out as a small festival in Melbourne CBD, Laneway has gone on to become a huge international touring festival with a carefully curated lineup that never disappoints. For it’s 15th birthday this year, Australian rock is getting the spotlight with the likes of Gang of Youths, Courtney Barnett, Camp Cope, Skegss and Middle Kids alongside a slew of international acts including Rex Orange County, Mitski and Jorja Smith. What So Not, Cosmo’s Midnight and Mansionair are there for those into electronic while Smino and A Boogie wit da hoodie are sure to please hip-hop fans. It’s an easy day festival in the heart of Sydney and Melbourne with good vibes guaranteed – so stop sleeping on it and grab a ticket.

LINEUP: Secret until sold out!

A 48-hour forest disco and costume party that you need to experience at least once. With a lineup that announces after it’s sold out to ensure everyone’s there for the right reasons, it’s a boutique festival that’s all magic and no dickheads. This year will be it’s 11th and LAST YEAR running so you can guarantee that the guys have nailed all aspects of party planning – just rock up with your tent, a costume and some groovy dance moves. Plus, it’s only an 1.5hr out from Sydney and all profits are donated to charity so your boogie will go to a good cause.

LINEUP: Adrian Lux, Basenji, The Bloody Beetroots, Carmada, The Jillionaire (of Major Lazor), Motez + MORE.

The guys behind Newcastle’s THIS THAT festival have announced UP DOWN – a brand new dance festival on the Newcastle Foreshore. The first lineup is bursting with some seriously huge international dance acts (Major Lazor’s The Jillionaire and Italian dance legends The Bloody Beetroots) plus a stack of Aussie acts including Nina Las Vegas, Kota Banks, Set Mo, Carmada and Motez. Yummy cocktails and food are also in the mix so you bet we’ll catch you there.

LINEUP: Erick Morillo, Eats Everything, Bag Raiders, Set Mo + MORE.

In it’s fourth edition this year, Electric Gardens is showcasing the best of electronic and house with a massive lineup featuring Erick Morillo, Eats Everything and Aussie favs Bag Raiders. After starting off as a backyard party run by Damian Gelle and Anton Marmot in 2001, Electric Gardens has grown to a sprawling festival with four stages in Sydney and two in Melbourne. Make sure you nab a ticket for Melbourne on Jan 18 and Sydney on Jan 26.

LINEUP:  Beach House, Deafheaven, Snail Mail, Joyce Manor, Stella Donnelly + MORE.

From the team behind Wollongong’s Yours & Owls Festival comes The Farmer & The Owl. The lineup is an eclectic mix that will make all fans of indie/alternative very very happy – think the kaleidoscopic Beach House, metal Deafheaven and indie-rock gem Snail Mail. Plus, it’s all set in the lovely McCabe Park in Wollongong so you can soak up some sun and enjoy the lovingly curated talent.

LINEUP:   Angus & Julia Stone, What So Not, Courtney Barnett, Thundamentals, Nothing But Thieves, Skegss + MORE.

Oh man oh man. We almost peed ourselves when the 2019 lineup came out because it is HUGE. The Mountain Sounds team have covered all bases this year – alongside some huge headliners, they’ve also got Ruby Fields, Stella Donnelly, Yungblud, Human Movement, Riton & Kah-Lo, Kwame and personal favs Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever and Totty. What a mouthful. We had a f*cking incredible time last year and we can’t wait to do it all again with you legends so hurry up and grab a ticket.

LINEUP: Evelyn Champagne King (US) + Mondo Freaks, Floating Points, Total Giovanni (DJ), John Gomez + MORE

10 hours of non-stop block party in Abbotsford’s Duke Street. Live acts and DJs from all over the world plus the finest local food and bevvies you could ask for, this one’s gonna be a sensory experience like no other. Make sure you catch synth-funk queen Evenlyn Champagne King and get down with the disco from Floating Points.

LINEUP: Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever, Harmony, Face Face, Total Giovanni (DJ) + MORE.

The Fitzroy Learning Network is taking over the Fitzroy Town Hall Ballroom for the annual Fitz Ritz. Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever (responsible for one of our favourite albums of 2018) are headlining this year along with a stack of local acts including Harmony, Face Face and disco legends Total Giovanni. Plus, FLN offers refugees, asylum seekers and people in public housing estates support and encouragement so they can learn and connect. Get yourself a ticket, have a little boogie and show some love <3
